The other day when I was updating how I did reviews here I thought wouldn't it be cool if I could give something other than stars!! I mean you see reviewers giving 4 hearts or 3.5 lips or 2 marbles to books and doesn't that sound like fun. To that end...
WHO: YOU!!!!
WHAT: Contest - Help me figure out a fun way to rate books in my reviews.
WHEN: Now until St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) at 9 pm CST
WHERE: Comment on this post with your idea, why your idea is cool, AND your email address
WHY: Cause contests and prizes are fun!! =)
PRIZE: Any book I have reviewed or rated here on my blog OR an earlier book in the same series as one of those books.
RULES: This blog is SFW so I will not be rating with body parts, curse words or anything else you wouldn't want to say in front of your mom. =)
So, put your thinking caps on and get commenting!!!
Ok, here it goes, I think a seasonal rating would be cool!
ReplyDeleteAround St Pattys of course 4 leaf clovers, Easter that would be bunnies or eggs, 4th of July fireworks or flags, presidents day rate in Mt Rushmores, around Valentines Day it could be hearts or roses or chocolate, in the fall there are tons of ideas, like backpacks ( for back to school) or apple pies, leaves, october in pumpkins or ghouls, November would be turkeys, December would be trees or santas..well, you get the idea!

Thanks for being the brave first poster, Mandy!!! :)
DeleteWell, I'm not very creative to begin with and I think Mandy's idea up there is awesome. That being said, this may sound boring in comparison but how about every now and then switching beteen like suns, moons, and rainbows?

Angel -Thanks for the idea...both are definitely in the running at this point. :)
DeleteI liked the seasonal idea, but it would be also nice if you could incorporate things like the worlds International Day Against Homophobia with rainbows and the same with AiDS just with the red bow, you can raise awereness of people and rate books.

Jibriel - Thanks for entering...this going to ne interesting contest to judge. :)
DeleteCocktails. Drinks are always fun and maybe you could start out with a "virgin" drink for a bad review and work up to the potent shot of tequila, with cosmos and mojitos in-between.

Hmmm...that is an interesting idea...I would never have thought of it. =) Thanks for your response.
ReplyDeleteYou could give them "hats off" :)

Another one I would never have thought of! Thanks! =)
DeleteA couple of ideas:
ReplyDelete- use the symbol for male (Mars symbol) in place of stars
- use a smiley face: 5 = super big smile, 1 = frowny face, 2 = no expression, etc.
- thumbs up/down/sideways to represent the numbers (like the smiley face)
Thanks for the entry!! =)
DeleteKathleen,
ReplyDeleteI had to go with the name of your blog--Romancing the word--so here are the two ideas:
1 a Quill in an ink bottle--5 Quill=5 stars--(Word
2. Cupid's with his bow & arrow--5 cupids--5 star review (Romancing)
